Dr Tan was the Director General of the CAS Institute of Automation from 2000 to 2007, and has been Professor and Director of the NLPR since 1998. He also serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the CAS. He has published more than 300 research papers in refereed journals and conferences in the areas of image processing, computer vision and pattern recognition. His current research interests include biometrics, image and video understanding, and information forensics and security.

Dr Tan is a Fellow of the IEEE and the IAPR. He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Automation and Computing. He currently serves as Vice President of the IAPR, the Executive Vice President of the Chinese Society of Image and Graphics, Deputy President of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, and was Deputy President of the China Computer Federation and the Chinese Automation Association.

Chengqing Zong’s research focuses on machine translation, human-computer dialogue system, and other related areas of natural language processing. As a principal investigator he has been taking charge of more than 10 projects, including the Natural Science Foundation projects of China, the High-Tech. Program (“863”) projects of China. He has published more than 200 papers in high quality journals and international conferences. He is a member of International Committee on Computational Linguistics (ICCL) and the vice president of Asian Federation on Natural Language Processing (AFNLP). He is also the vice president of the Society of Chinese Information Processing of China and a standing member of the Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence as well. Tong Zhang is a machine learning researcher, and the executive director of Tencent AI Lab. Previously, he was a professor at Rutgers university, and worked at IBM, Yahoo, and Baidu.

Tong Zhang's research interests include machine learning algorithms and theory, statistical methods for big data and their applications. His research has been supported by many grants from funding agencies such as NSF and NIH. He is a fellow of ASA and IMS, and he has been in the editorial boards of leading machine learning journals and program committees of top machine learning conferences.

Dr. Yao is a part-time Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham and the Director of the Centre of Excellence for Research in Computational Intelligence and Applications (CERCIA). He took up a chair professorship at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Dr. Yao is also a Fellow of IEEE, a Distinguished Lecturer, and a Past (2014-15) President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. His research interests include evolutionary computation (evolutionary optimization, evolutionary learning, evolutionary design), neural network ensembles and multiple classifiers (especially on the diversity issue), meta-heuristic algorithms, data mining, computational complexity of evolutionary algorithms, and various real-world applications. He received a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2012, and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award in 2013.

Zhaoxiang Zhang joined the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Beihang University, as an Assistant Professor (2009-2011), an Associate professor (2012-2015) and the vise-director of the Department of Computer application technology (2014-2015). In July 2015, he returned to the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is now a Professor in the Research Center for Brain-inspired Intelligence.

Harry Shum is executive vice president of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Research group. He is responsible for driving the company’s overall AI strategy and forward-looking research and development efforts spanning infrastructure, services, apps and agents. He oversees AI-focused product groups including Bing and Cortana.  He also leads Microsoft Research, one of the world’s premier computer science research organizations, and its integration with the engineering teams across the company. Previously, Dr. Shum served as the corporate vice president responsible for Bing search product development from 2007 to 2013. Prior to his engineering leadership role at Bing and online services, he oversaw the research activities at Microsoft Research Asia and the lab’s collaborations with universities in the Asia Pacific region, and was responsible for the Internet Services Research Center, an applied research organization dedicated to advanced technology investment in search and advertising at Microsoft. Dr. Shum joined Microsoft Research in 1996 as a researcher based in Redmond, Washington. In 1998 he moved to Beijing as one of the founding members of Microsoft Research China (later renamed Microsoft Research Asia). There he began a nine-year tenure as a researcher, subsequently moving on to become research manager, assistant managing director and managing director of Microsoft Research Asia and a Distinguished Engineer. Dr. Shum is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Fellow for his contributions to computer vision and computer graphics. He received his Ph.D. in robotics from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2017, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering of the United States.

Jiawei Han is Abel Bliss Professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He has been researching into data mining, information network analysis, database systems, and data warehousing, with over 900 journal and conference publications. He has chaired or served on many program committees of international conferences in most data mining and database conferences. He also served as the founding Editor-In-Chief of ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data and the Director of Information Network Academic Research Center supported by U.S. Army Research Lab (2009-2016), and is the co-Director of KnowEnG, an NIH funded Center of Excellence in Big Data Computing since 2014. He is Fellow of ACM, Fellow of IEEE, and received 2004 ACM SIGKDD Innovations Award, 2005 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, and 2009 M. Wallace McDowell Award from IEEE Computer Society. His co-authored book "Data Mining: Concepts and Techniques" has been adopted as a textbook popularly worldwide.

Zhi-Hua Zhou, Professor, Head of Department of Computer Science and Technology, Dean of School of Artificial Intelligence of Nanjing University. He is a Fellow of the ACM, AAAI, AAAS, IEEE, IAPR, CCF and CAAI, and foreign member of the Academy of Europe. His research interests mainly includes artificial intelligence, machine learning and data mining. He authored the books “Ensemble Methods: Foundations and Algorithms” and “Machine Learning (in Chinese)”.

Jiaya Jia is an IEEE fellow. He is now the Distinguished Scientist and Director of YouTu Lab, Tencent, as well as professor at Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science jointly from Microsoft Research and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2004. He published 100+ papers in top conferences and journals and gave 30+ keynote talks in academia and industry. His team also released 20+ open-source systems and freeware. He is in the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI) and International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV). He was on (technical paper) program committees of major conferences in graphics and computational imaging, including ICCP, SIGGRAPH, and SIGGRAPH Asia.

Bing Liu is a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh. His research interests include sentiment analysis, lifelong learning, data mining, machine learning, and natural language processing (NLP). He has published extensively in top conferences and journals. Two of his papers have received 10-year Test-of-Time awards from KDD. He also authored four books: two on sentiment analysis, one on lifelong learning, and one on Web mining. Some of his work has been widely reported in the press, including a front-page article in the New York Times. On professional services, he served as the Chair of ACM SIGKDD (ACM Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining) from 2013-2017. He also served as program chair of many leading data mining conferences, including KDD, ICDM, CIKM, WSDM, SDM, and PAKDD, as associate editor of leading journals such as TKDE, TWEB, DMKD and TKDD, and as area chair or senior PC member of numerous NLP, AI, Web, and data mining conferences. Liwei Wang is a professor of School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Sciences, Peking University. His main research interest is machine learning theory and has published more than 100 papers on top conferences and journals. He was the first Asian researcher who was named among “AI’s 10 to Watch”. Wenyuan Dai, founder and CEO of 4Paradigm, Gold Medal recipient in ACM-ICPC World Final, First Prize Winner in Wu Wen Jun AI Science & Technology Award (the highest award in China’s AI field), is also a recipient of 2017 MIT TR 35 under 35 and 2017 Fortune most successful entrepreneur 40 under 40. Prof. Xin Li co-founded Xigmix Inc. to commercialize his PhD research, and served as the Chief Technical Officer until the company was acquired by Extreme DA in 2007. he was the Assistant Director for FCRP Focus Research C2S2, a national consortium of 13 research universities. From 2014 to 2015, he was the Assistant Director for the Center for Silicon System Implementation (CSSI). His research interests include integrated circuit, signal processing and data analytics.
